Luận án là công trình nghiên cứu khá toàn diện, tập trung và có hệ thống về cơ sở khoa học cho việc phát triển nghề nuôi ngao tại vùng ven biển Nam Định. Trong đó, loài Ngao trắng (Meretrix lyrata) – loài di nhập được nuôi một cách hợp lý, có kiểm soát và phát triển loài Ngao dầu (Meretrix meretrix) - loài bản địa đang có nguy cơ cạn kiệt nguồn lợi. Tính mới của đề tài luận án thể hiện ở những điểm chính sau:

  1. Luận án đã đánh giá được biến động nguồn lợi hai loài ngao (Meretrix meretrix và Meretrix lyrata) một cách cụ thể, tách biệt và đã đánh giá được hiện trạng nuôi, bảo vệ nguồn lợi ngao tại vùng triều ven biển Giao Thủy, Nam Định.
  2. Các dẫn liệu về mùa vụ sinh sản, kích thước thành thục sinh dục lần đầu, cơ cấu giới tính, sức sinh sản, đặc điểm độ béo của loài ngao dầu (loài bản địa) và ngao trắng (loài di nhập) tại vùng ven biển Giao Thủy, Nam Định lần đầu tiên được công bố. Đây là cơ sở khoa học rất quan trọng phục vụ sản xuất giống, nuôi thương phẩm, phát triển nguồn lợi hai loài ngao và bảo tồn loài ngao bản địa (Meretrix meretrix) đang bị suy giảm nghiêm trọng.
  3. Luận án đã xác định được các mối liên quan cơ bản giữa môi trường đến phân bố, sinh trưởng, sinh sản và yếu tố chính gây chết ngao ngoài tự nhiên.
  4. Các định hướng nuôi, phát triển nguồn lợi ngao trắng và bảo tồn ngao dầu được đề xuất dựa trên các cơ sở lý luận vững chắc phù hợp với thực tiễn tại Giao Thủy, Nam Định. Vùng bảo tồn ngao dầu bản địa ngoài tự nhiên lần đầu tiên được đề xuất thông qua bản quy hoạch với quy mô 3090 ha tại Giao Thủy, Nam Định với các phân vùng riêng biệt đã được địa phương xem xét áp dụng vào thực tiễn.

This dissertation is a result of the comprehensive and systematic research on scientific basis for the development of reasonable, controlled culturing lyrate asiatic hard clam (Meretrix lyrata) - an exotic species, and asiatic hard clam (Meretrix meretrix), a native species is in danger of depletion. The new academic contributions of this research are indicated as follows:

  1. The variation and culturing status of Meretrix meretrix and Meretrix lyrata resources in Giao Thuy (Nam Dinh) coastal area have been clearly assessed.
  2. For the first time the information of spawning season, the size of first sexual maturity, sex composition, fecundity, muscle rate of Meretrix meretrix and Meretrix lyrata species in Giao Thuy (Nam Dinh) coastal area have been published. This is the important scientific data for breed production, commercial culture of two hard clam species, as well as conservation the Meretrix meretrix – a native species which has been declined seriously.
  3. The research determined the basic influences of environmental factors on distribution, growth, reproduction of these species and the main factor causing its mortality in the nature.
  4. The dissertation also suggested some orientations of culture and development of Meretrix meretrix and Meretrix lyrata resources, basing on a solid scientific basis consisted with reality in Giao Thuy (Nam Dinh). The conservation area of the native species Meretrix meretrix in nature has been proposed with scale 3,090 ha in Giao Thuy (Nam Dinh) for the first time.
