1. General objectives: Contributing to the protection of marine mammals in Vietnam and attaining some requirements of the international economic integration of the fisheries sector. 2. Goals: - Reviewing and evaluating the current status, regulations on management and rescue of marine mammals in Vietnam and proposing additional ways for improvement which are relevant with international regulations. - Assessing the impacts, rate of unintentional exploitation of fisheries on some mammal species in Vietnam's sea in order to contribute to meet some requirements for exportation - Assessing of stranding and rescue of mammals in some coastal areas of Vietnam; - Propose solutions to protect and minimize impacts from fishing activities on marine mammals in Vietnam; - Developing manuals on technical manual to rescue mammals in Vietnam's waters. 3. Tasks - Task 1: Reviewing and evaluating the current status of related studies, national and international regulations on the management and rescue of marine mammals in Vietnam. - Task 2: Surveying and assessing the impact of fishing activities on marine mammals in Vietnam. - Task 3: Surveying, assessing stranding and rescue situations of mammals in Vietnam coastal areas - Task 4: Proposing solutions to protect and minimize the impacts from fishing activities on marine mammals in Vietnam. - Task 5: Developing technical manual for the rescue of marine mammals in Vietnam
