Trapping is one of the most important fishing methods in the fishery structure of  Hai Phong. This report is to assess the status of fish trapping in Hai Phong. The authors used methods such as retrospective documents, surveying, primary and secondary data collection in some areas that are devoloping trapping in Hai Phong and used some norms about fishing productivity, norm of productive efficiency to assess fishing status. Theresearch results show that, trapping (accordion-shaped trapsand crab traps) counted for about 21,1% of fishing boats in Hai Phong. However, boats used mostly power less than 90CV, and practice fishing in coastal and inshore waters. Further, the fishing gear is still lacking and not synchronized; small mesh size; the percentage of trash fishes in the catch is quite high; the catch per unit effort and economic effectiveness are tending to decrease.
